Engineering + Management != "Engineering Management"

This and other oops! and aha!'s I discovered as I transitioned from an Engineer to an Engineering Manager Great engineers don't necessarily make great engineering managers. If you are currently an engineer / tech lead and thinking about switching to an engineering manager role, you may have several questions. You may be wondering if it’s the right move and if you have the right skills to succeed. Having made the transition a couple years ago, I can say I went through a steeper learning curve than I imagined. In this talk I will share some of the things I had to learn, and more importantly things I had to unlearn to be successful at engineering management.

Sangeeta Nori
Sangeeta is currently a Sr. Engineering Manager at Nordstrom supporting one of their e-commerce teams. Prior to Nordstrom, she was with General Motors IT for 8 years, first as an engineer building web applications and later transitioning to engineering management. At GM, she also served as the professional development chair for the GM Women in Technology employee resource group and supported various DEI initiatives focused on reducing the gender gap in Tech. Outside of work, you will find her spending time with family or hiking one of the many parks around the North Atlanta area.
